Bier – Casket Alternative

A bier (pronounced “beer”) is a burial container similar to a casket, but only contains a bottom and no lid or top. This burial container has natural rope handles on both sides for transportation and is unlined. The bier is made of untreated and unstained wood harvested in Iowa and was handcrafted by Trappist Monks at New Melleray Abbey. As opposed to being stained, it is covered in all natural beeswax harvested in the USA. Currently New Melleray Abbey is planting 40 trees for every 1 tree harvested to ensure sustainability.
